As someone who prefers connecting in CDG over AMS, I still try to have at least a 2 hour connection. My recent experience last month…flying LIN-CDG-LAX (business class if that meters), with a further connection at LAX. The scheduled connection at CDG was 1 hr45min. We arrived at CDG about 20 min late. Unfortunately, we were parked at a remote stand, over by 2D. Boarding buses and getting to 2F (which was our scheduled arrival terminal) took time. Once in 2F passport control was so backed up they turned off the escalator. We asked the staff if there was a faster line or if we could cut the line and they said no.
After15 min, and with a growing number of people getting delayed (this for the automated machines line), they let us cut the line. Ran to our gate, barely made our flight. Our checked bags did not. Due to multiple connections when I booked this ticket I had to accept the 1hr45min connection. Again, I say this as someone who prefers connecting at CDG.
Relatedly, Air France handled our delayed bags professionally and relatively painlessly. I was impressed.
