Award seats on many airlines -- including EI -- are capacity controlled, meaning that just because a seat is available for cash does not mean that it is available for award travel.

Because EI is a United Airlines Mileage Plus partner, some people have reported searching for EI award availability at united.com. But whether EI availability shown there exactly matches what is available for Avios redemption, I cannot say.
