I was sold on applying for the Delta Skymiles Platinum Card because of the benefit of waiving bag fees. With the growing expense of paying for bags, this was the only reason I got the card. My other Platinum and Gold credit cards provide all other benefits. My husband I a recently travelled to Italy. The flight was boooked through Expedia. We flew from Atlanta to Amsterdam to Rome on KLM going and returned from Rome to Atlanta on Delta. Because KLM is a Delta partner we thought there would be no bag fee; however, when leaving Atlanta, we were charged $80 per bag, a total of $160. When we checked our bags in Rome on our return flight I showed the ticket agent my AMEX and told her that we should not pay. She asked the agent sitting next to her and they waived the baggage fee. When returned home I contacted AMEX and disputed the charge. They did not refund the baggage fee of $160. They said the flight originated on a codeshare flight not a Delta flight. None of it made sense. As a consumer, how are we suppose to know the difference in codeshare and partner airline. I paid the fee at the airport when we were checking our bags leaving Atlanta because I did not want to hold up the line, but I thought I would be refunded by AMEX. When soliciting the AMEX card, these policies should be made clear. I feel like I was taken advantage of. I am not happy with the outcome and the explanation for closing my dispute.
