Though I'm curious what the availability of the travel Zoo package is during peak season. That worry and being further away from the air traffic (is Mercure the one walkable to the domestic airport?) and most of the other mega resorts made me stick with Le Meridien.
I'm also dealing with a similar thing. With the recent price increases at the LM, it's cheaper to do an AI at a lower-end resort and keep all my Marriott Rupees. We're going more for the experience of being in an overwater villa than anything else. I hate surprises and stressing out about costs so I do value paying everything up front even if the end result is a bit higher. I have a little bit of a thing for consuming alcohol seen some eye-popping bills after a couple cruises. And not a real foody, just prefer to be able to go a meter away from a toilet most of the trip, that's the only real requirement.
So an AI is kind of up my alley. I also have a Citi Prestige and can see if the 4th night free comes in handy.
We're going next month so it's not a peak time. Going to be in the area (ok, my wife is visiting her dad in BKK) and want to do it.
