Is this real, or is the GS rep confusing the fact that there is no equivalent to PN class for PE upgrades? It seems weird if GS essentially can't sponsor PE upgrades for other people unless they clear immediately, but sometimes weird things are true. Does anyone have experience waitlisting an upgrade for non-status pax to PE using GS instruments, and saw where they showed up on the waitlist?

That's correct. GS-sponsored upgrades are looking for "PN" for Polaris and "RN" for Premium Economy.

"PN" for Polaris is only used for GS and GS-sponsored upgrades. Therefore anybody waitlisted with GS PlusPoints will be at/towards the top of the list. They are above all upgrades from Premium Plus or Coach from a non-GS PlusPoints waitlist perspective.

"RN" for Premium Economy, on the other hand, is the same bucket used by all flyers trying to upgrade with PlusPoints. Therefore, non-GS flyers (regardless of whose PlusPoints they are using) will be sorted at the bottom of the list as they do not inherit the status of the flyer who sponsored the upgrade.

Polaris waitlist looks something like this:
GS Member using their own PPs
Non-GS member sponsored by GS PPs
All Premium Economy passengers using non-GS PPs sorted by elite status
All Coach passengers using non-GS PPs sorted by elite status

Premium Economy waitlist is simply sorted by status, booking code and time of request.
