Fully agree with this suggestion, for the same reason, i.e. many hotels will upgrade only one of the rooms (if at all, depends on the country of course) - this is my experience travelling as an Ambassador in US/Asia with multiple rooms (and no second gold to worry about). I would of course say that Gold and Platinum are going to be fairly far down the pecking order, but you should at least hope for a good view.

There is however an opportunity cost here to be aware of (i.e. the 25% bonus points difference between the Gold & Platinum), though you can then get two welcome gifts of points. If this is going to be common then it will be a nice way to get the gold closer to status renewal as well.
