Exactly, it boggles my mind.
I just got a pushback from travel department on my requested flight (the only one with Y1 on the desired departure date), and they want to book me on a later flight (ungodly arrival time) on a Standard fare. I just flat out said no, book me on Comfort fare (still cheaper than Standard on the late flight) for the morning flight then I'll do SDC on the day of departure.
We'll see what happens.
