Update:

For business travel over 10 hours in duration, I get to fly J because I am at the manager level.

The flights I am having to fight for are my rotational flights to get me to / from the office. These ones have a hard policy "lowest available fare only". However, I have full freedom to request specific flights, thus I will mostly target flights that only have Lat Y fares left. I'm not even going to bother arguing with the travel department over the benefit of booking Comfort fares far in advance, I'm just going to get them to book Lat Y fares by requesting the bookings much closer to the departure dates.
