You could try the call centre to see if they are able to help, but maybe its a revenue protection issue - stopovers inhibited on routes involving regional flights to prevent folk doing what you want to do on (relatively) cheap fares
I seem to remember intra-Gulf routes being explicitly excluded from STPC in the past, so I guess there could be similar policy here as well.
In true flyertalker style, perhaps a cheap Y return Saudi to DOH for the business trip followed by a separate ticket for the long haul passing back through DOH again airside only might work out cheaper? Doing a back to back in Saudi and the extra points might be a fun way to fill half a day if the savings are substantial?
