Bülow Palais is probably the best hotel in town. On Neustadt side is more life going on in the evening. If you want to be close to more baroque buildings, choose a hotel on the Altstadt side like Hotel Suitess, Hyperion, Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe, Townhouse Dresden, etc

If you're into history you need to visit besides the museums also the Panometer. Offerendum postet already the main things to visit here. Enjoy your time.
