It would be an odd situation if you booked PRG-LHR-LAX just to take the PRG-LHR flight and drop the LHR-LAX one!

Short checking and refusal to do that is only really an issue when you are trying to drop the last leg, for example if you were doing LAX-LHR-DUB but wanted to short check to LHR.
