I haven’t gone all in on min maxing with my JAL Card, but at the very least I use it as my primary card for spending. At least on the mid-range cards like the JAL Club-A you can’t do much better than a 1% return on normal spending. Double miles at Aeon though so I do most of my grocery shopping there.
If you’re looking for a new card, I highly recommend getting one that’s View branded so that you can get automatic Suica recharges, which makes getting around super convenient. Sadly initial spending offers aren’t as generous as ANA.
Rakuten points and dPoints transfer over at a 2:1 ratio, so if you’re deeply invested with either of those points systems you can earn a lot through there too by leveraging spending bonus categories or Furusato Nozei through Rakuten, which frequently has bonus multipliers.
If you’re unfortunate enough like me to have to make tax payments come kakutei shinkoku time, those can at least be made with a credit card. Earning miles from that lessens the pain a little bit.
As CPH-Flyer mentioned, unfortunately there’s no foreign card transfer partners that let you go 1:1. I have no evidence for it but I think that does help with award space compared to ANA these days.
