Where should we stay in Dresden?

We're planning a trip to Germany inspired by the Hugo van der Goes show at the Gemaldegalerie in Berlin. We tentatively plan to stay at the Regent, since we liked it for our prior trip. Berlin Luxury Hotels

Dresden seems to have a nice amount of art and architecture from the Renaissance to Baroque. eras. Are there other places easily accessible by train from Berlin or Dresden to visit to see such things and, if so, what hotels should we consider?
