I may have to change the return date AND/OR not take the last leg as I now need to be in GLA in September now (few days earlier).
Looking for some feedback on strategy/approach.
Return is WAY out in future and BA is usually good at making changes to itenerary that allows for rebooking.
This is my current strategy.
Then when this happens, I would change the return to a few days earlier and then also not do last leg from LHR-BCN and would rather get a ticket from LHR to GLA when the change occurs.
The other way is to address now, but fares are more expensive than when I booked.

Questions: Is my current strategy sound? What happens if I do not take last leg from LHR to BCN with BA/AA?

Thank you in advance.
Your strategy is somewhat sound, although since you booked this through AA it will ultimately be AA's rules (and agents) that will govern what you can and can't do in the event of schedule changes.

So depending on the schedule change, you may or may not be able to use that for a "free" change to a couple days before.

But regardless nothing will happen if you don't take the LHR-BCN flight. Once you land in London just pull up your reservation at aa.com and cancel it, you will be removed from the flight.
