You're looking at prime dates for HK students to travelling back for the summer holidays, so it's always going to be pricier than normal for direct flights to Hong Kong. Have you looked at flying China Airlines direct to Taipei for example? I can see that there are flights on 4th July - 22 Aug for only around £1000 each
