I did a five-night stay here over Easter. Information online is ambiguous as to what level this hotel is pitched at, but my view is this is a nice four star hotel - you shouldn't think of it as a five star potentially competing with e.g. Mango House as some marketing implies. It's also more boutique hotel than full service resort, so there's no dedicated concierge, room service is not 24 hours, housekeeping don't do turndown service in the evening, etc. It's probably unfair to provide too much of an opinion since this is the first non-five star hotel I've stayed at in years (yes, I'm spoilt), so I will go for things I liked and things to note instead.
Things I liked:
- All of the staff were very nice and the place has a great laid back vibe
- The hotel is across from one of the best public beaches on Mahé, which didn't get crowded even over the Easter weekend
- The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, albeit build quality is a bit 'island style' in some places
- I was proactively upgraded a couple of days before arrival to The Family Suite (the second most expensive room in the hotel) from a booked base room
- Late checkout to 4pm was given with no push back
Some things to note:
- The hotel is not directly on the beach, it's separated by a small road. In addition, if you end up with a room on one side of the hotel your view will be over a neighboring petrol station
- Views of the beach and sea from the hotel are limited / partially obscured by trees in front of the beach
- Amenities provided in the bathroom are pretty sparse. For example there is no conditioner (only shower gel and shampoo), no amenities like shower cap / nail file, etc.
- Breakfast was OK quality wise and included made to order eggs and decent barista coffee, but the selection was quite small and didn't really change from day to day (perhaps as occupancy increases and the hotel becomes established this will improve)
- Service was occasionally a little slow. There were quite a few external guests who came to visit the pool bar to eat over the weekend which slowed down service a lot sometimes
- The hotel is still somewhat in a soft opening. Whilst the two restaurants and hotel bar are all finished, the deli is still under construction which will cause a bit of construction noise in the day if you have a room nearby. Equally, the kids play room is currently still an empty room
- The only areas that are air conditioned are the rooms and the second floor hotel bar. This is the one area I will criticise the hotel for as therefore the gym is not air conditioned. It is full largely of cardio equipment and given it is on the corner that gets sun and also packed with lights, it was 30+ degrees C, 75% humidity and full of mosquitoes for my entire stay and therefore effectively unusable. I'm not sure why the hotel bar next door is air conditioned but the gym isn't, it's a pretty basic design failure
Can provide some photos and more info on facilities and rooms later if it's helpful.
