The security team invited me to just watch them. They told me that people turn into strange creatures at the airport for some reason.
People were dropping all sorts, passports, jackets, leaving their belt, leaving their bag! It was fascinating.
I will include myself in this. When going through security in LAX earlier this year I felt rushed and really quite stressed, and I managed to forget to zip up my laptop bag. When I picked it up, my laptop flew out and crashed to the floor and sustained £800 of damage. I think anxiety levels are generally quite high in security - in my case I remember the security officers shouting with instructions, feeling rushed and pressured to unpack and pack with people all around me, and feeling annoyed at someone who queue jumped right in front of me etc etc It is much harder to think straight in an environment like this, especially for infrequent travellers.
