When another passenger takes your passport….

I thought I share an interesting experience I had last week at Heathrow. I am curious to see if anyone ever had similar experience, and also some may find the lessons from this case helpful.

I was travelling in First to Mexico City.
After clearing security, another passenger picked up my boarding pass and passport from my tray by accident.
I only realised this when trying to get into the Concorde room.

I asked security for help, and they told me that they actually saw what happened, but didn’t realise that the passport belonged to me.
They called the person responsible for the CCTV, they put him on loudspeaker and he really couldn’t care less, and wasn’t going to do anything.

At this point I realised I won’t be going anywhere most likely. I called AMEX PLATINUM / AXA insurance who informed me that my insurance does not cover for this scenario.

Cut long story short, at the BA customer services desk I was informed that they can see a message on the system that a passenger handed in my passport at one of the C gates.
After taking the train there, most of the check-in crew left, and the only remaining staff had no clue what I am talking about.

I ran back to A gates BA customer services desk (as the train only work one way), and was told to go to my departure B gate.
In the end my passport was brought to me by a BA staff, just before the gate opened.

Couple of lessons I learnt:
1. Always keep your passport in your bag!
2. The train at T5 only goes one way!
3. Bring your second passport if you have one (though on this one I am not 100% sure whether it is the right thing to do, but I was contemplating taking it before I left my home)

What was also interesting to see, how passengers act on the airport.
The security team invited me to just watch them. They told me that people turn into strange creatures at the airport for some reason.
People were dropping all sorts, passports, jackets, leaving their belt, leaving their bag! It was fascinating.
