Thanks for the quick reply. I had come to the realization that there is zero chance of a comp upgrade. Since it's my honeymoon I am fine paying for an upgrade.
If the upgrade is important to you I would not rely on one being available. Reserve the minimum room type that you will be happy with.
On the other hand, if it's just "nice to have", then what you are doing makes sense.
