So much of pre-Covid-era has vanished from my brain that I cannot recall how this error on our part occurred, but IIRC it may have been a rule change that slipped by us. He’s been reluctant to apply for ANYTHING AA since that bad experience. The language states that he’s not eligible for the current offer if he received a new account bonus in the past 48 months, which he has not. However, I’m afraid Citi may just look back and see that he was APPROVED for that card in the past 48 months and ASSUME he received a bonus and then deny any current app & he’ll be back in the same position he was in 2019. I have no way to prove he never got SUB – there was never a letter confirming it wasn’t going to happen, account on line only goes back two years etc. It will just be their word vs. his and the notes in our file. Can he be confident that the 48 month lookback is truly for SUB and not just approval? Thanks for any thoughts!
I'm a little confused. Are you saying DH was approved for the AA Plat. Select in Aug. 2019 and it came with NO SUB? That doesn't make sense.
Here's my take. He received a SUB two to three months after he received the card, which would be Oct or Nov 2019, so he has received a SUB in the last 48 months.
Best to construct a spreadsheet so this doesn't happen again. I'd wait til Dec and have him apply again IF he wants the deflated AA miles.
