I did my homework, follow FT and last week I traveled Qatar Airways Q Suites 767 from my homebase in the States to DOH and took advantage of the DiscoverQatar hotel program for one night and then traveled F to CAI 787 and even a domestic flight to Luxor on EgyptAir. Couple notes:
Watch your fare buckets on the cheap Qatar tickets even for First Class and what people call "J" product here, Qatar Airways doesn't follow that nomenclature and your lounge access depends on your fare bucket. For me my Biz class Q-suite and outgoing First class connection was purchased as a "Lite" fare which includes NO lounge access regardless of what type of ticket I hold. It was a "P" fare. I used Amex International Flight program which makes no mention of no lounge access on certain fares. Coming back I bought the same route but on the "R" fare which did include the lounges including Al Safwa (more on that below). I would hate for you to purchase this as an "experiential" travel adventure only to be turned away at the Al Safwa desk. Also the LITE fare did NOT include Seat selection prior to checkin so I had to BUY a seat assignment even with a Biz Class ticket in hand! Outrageous. I could select the seat on the first class fare though but not the TATL portion in Q-Suite. That added $104 EACH PERSON EACH WAY but I got the rear facing suite seats I wanted that fold into a full sized bed.
First class Intra Gulf hard product was excellent - 787-900 1-2-1 configuration, lie flat seats, menu dining for my 3 hour flight to CAI. It's not a suite but it is excellent. They are not using jetways for this flight and a bus transfer is required and the First class passengers ride in a seperate First class bus with leather lounge chairs.
Coming back the CAI lounge is mediocre at best, Al Safwa on the way back was the experience. You can't imagine a place like this exists. First it is huge with multiple hallways and open areas. It pushes the limits of what can be defined as a "Lounge". Menu dining (try the seafood curry and tell them danteshors from FlyerTalk suggested it) massive bar served by several bartenders, another restaurant serving vegetarian sushi and other fare 24x7, A spa that had a full treatment menu from 10 minutes to hour lounge sessions you could book. The thing I wanted to do was SLEEP as out flight back from Cairo landed at 11:55PM and my flight back to the states left at 7:55AM. Luckily I did my research ahead of time and knew Al Safwa has 6 Sleep Suites available as first come first serve so we hustled off the plane and got to the Al Safwa quiet area registration desk and got a reservation booked for 1:30AM. We had a perfect amount of time to go and then eat the fine dining and look around. We got our room at 1:30 which consisted of 2 double beds, an excellent shower and bathroom setup including robes. You get the room for a max of 6 hours. You surrender your boarding passes at the front desk so you can't just skip out of the room without letting them know. This keeps the rooms efficiently ready for the next guests as soon as you leave.
All in all it was a great trip - The Qatar Airways flights were excellent. I paid $2480 per ticket through Amex Travel plus an extra $400 to QR to secure my requested seats so I think that was a great deal. I checked a few weeks before departure and just the ATL-DOH portion for 2 person was over $22,000 for the flight. These QR flights that include the CAI leg can be mined for some decent world travel if you can fit a CAI connection in.
