Bringing any kind of documentation might help you as an agent can override most anything.

But the OP was asking about adding his
parents. I assume that the OP's birth certificate -- and the parents' marriage certificate if the mother did not take the father's surname -- would establish the relationship. It would be unusual -- and perhaps a violation of California law -- to require that the renter still live with his parents.
