I was playing around with it online and had an agent confirm it with me over the phone that a Multi City Trip would be considered a more expensive fare class than a 1 way and that even though it didn't seem correct, that me booking the 1 way would in fact be cheaper then changing my flight. At least now I have my flight situation squared away and with a nice credit to boot as well which is being used on a Cancun trip this summer which I need to book.
