Flash sales have been around for a while, but never can be sure. Where are you starting out?
In May I'm seeing DCA-LHR for 440,000 or so with the 15% Amex discount. If you go in Oct, then 297,000 for the same flights.
DCA-PRG for 360,000 miles in Oct without the 15% Amex discount because you are flying a KL leg.
In Oct you could do DCA-TYO for 485,000 each. I even see a few dates in the Fall for DCA-SYD for 552,400 each - Sept 30-Oct 20. But that would be a bit more than 1MM.
If you buy now and a sale comes along, you can always go back and reprice the tickets and you will get the difference back.
