Having been a loyal Delta customer for many years and traveling frequently in the past, between myself and Mrs. Matty we have almost 1MM Skymiles. 4-5 years ago I would see occasional Delta 1 fares for 100K-120K RT to various locations in Europe. Now, it looks like the standard fare is 300K-400K. I thought I had enough for Mrs. Matty and myself to make a couple of Delta 1 trips to Europe (don't care about destination) as we go into retirement. Is there a preferred strategy to take advantage of our miles despite the massive devaluation that has occurred? I know I'm we're all in the same boat but I guess I'm hoping our flexibility in destinations will work to our advantage. I've heard people refer to 48 hour flash sales, unpublished fares, etc. but I have no idea where to be looking. I know that we can use them for Economy domestic fares to get the most bang for the buck but it's very unlikely we'll take 20 domestics flights to take advantage of that. Any suggestions are appreciated.
