Your point on developing good habits is spot on! Some of the least ‘muscle memory’ errors in the simulator are performed by crews who look and touch whist briefing the ‘how’s’, very much in the same way as the Japanese technique of
shisa kanko.
We are all human and will all be startled by the u expected, giving one’s brain the best possible chance of ‘caging the chimp’ and engaging a bit of positive muscle memory is only to one’s personal benefit, and those that feel they know better or are more experienced will only ever find out the hard way that they too are a limited human after all.
