This is a great suggestion and I appreciate it. Certainly would be interested if others have direct experience with this approach. Don't want to get in bad graces with Amex, but probably would have passed on this upgrade offer if I'd properly understood how it was going to play out so definitely interested in "mitigating" the damage if possible.
Also, any reason this approach wouldn't work with downgrading to say a no annual fee Blue Business rather than the Biz Green card? I ask just because my wife hasn't yet had the Biz Green so would prefer for her to get that one via a SUB at some point rather than via a downgrade path.
