And compare them against your reservation. Do it diligently. Do it every time. And make sure you speak up when it’s wrong.
Just returned a 1-way rental (TUS-PHX). Filled it up before returning it. They were so short staffed at PHX that they were 2 rows behind in checking cars in. I spoke with an attendant, took some pictures, and left the keys in the car.
20 minutes later I get a receipt. $16 more than the agreed price. I go looking for the culprit… aha! A 15.99 fuel fee!
except… the receipt shows that I returned it at 8/8! That’s odd… why would there be a fuel fee?!?
aha! The checkin agent gave typed in the odometer reading wrong… according to the receipt, I only drove the car 4 miles. 4 miles from Tucson to Phoenix!! Guao!!
If I were any more cynical, I’d believe that Avis counters are training employees to do whatever it takes to add a fuel charge to the rental, in hopes that customers won’t notice or bother to complain.
I think this is the third or fourth fuel charge I’ve had to sort out this year.
Check your receipts. Call/email to fix it, even if you don’t think you have time. You can email
[email protected] if you don’t want to spend time on the phone. I have the email for a VP of operations that I will provide to you privately if you don’t get satisfaction. Don’t reward sloppy/bad behavior with you (or your comapny’s) dollars… it will only incentivize the bad behavior.
