No, it's not the PH or Chatwal, but it's 1/4 or 1/5 the price. You're getting very large rooms with 12-foot ceilings that were built to luxury hotel brand standards at a Hyatt Place price point. I used to stay at the 50 Bowery a lot and like their rooms and views, but there's little chance of a suite upgrade as a Globalist (and it's an ADA room with a tub if you do get one) and the only place to sit other than the bed is a single crappy desk chair. As someone who lives in hotels, that didn't work for me.
Hyatt Centric Wall Street positives:
- The smallest room in the hotel is 345 sqft (deluxe rooms are 450 sqft) while rooms in Hyatt Place properties in NYC are typically <200 sqft
- They have four 610 sqft corner suites per floor and I and other Globalists I know have gotten free upgrades to them almost 100% of the time
- The desk setup is one of the best I've had in any hotel
- Bathrooms have marble wet rooms with separate large soaking tubs and rainfall showers
- Breakfast isn't going to win any awards, but it's definitely better than 50 Bowery's, you can order off the menu or get the buffet, and it runs until noon every day. They're launching a much larger breakfast menu next week too.
- A lot of the staff came from the Andaz or other luxury hotels
Some negatives:
- Internet is slow (10mbps) and went down for days at a time when they were switching to Spectrum
- Rooms, even on high floors, face other buildings (though the -15 suites have a partial east river view)
- Standard suites, while decent-size, don't have doors between the living area and bedroom area
- The HVAC system is problematic as it can only provide either heat or air conditioning throughout the building at any given time. The hotel has space heaters available and the windows open so it hasn't been a huge issue for me
- Some desks, wardrobes, windows, and molding are cracked/showing their age (e.g., the duct tape on some windows). They've just replaced all the TVs
- You definitely hear street noise
I've only had a cleanliness issue once and generally find the housekeeping staff great.
That is a fair review and I would agree with all your points.
However as far as limited views, you are not going to get anything better with the more upscale Beekman, though 50 Bowery does have great views if you get the city facing rooms. I do think that there is far more separation between the Wall Street HC and say the Beekman so you tend to get more light/brighter rooms.
Street noise is pretty minor if compared to Beekman as well where if your room does not rumble due to the subway trains running under the hotel, you will have the cacophony of construction that seems to surround the Beekman.
Have not stayed at Gild Hall, but based on reviews, I don’t think it has anything that would stand out over the Wall Street HC either.
