On a few dates in Sep - Nov you can fly Cathay Pacific from Boston to Australia for $1285 - $1410 in economy. I will admit some of the dates require quite a long stay, but I have found a few shorter stays.
If you credit these flights to American you won't receive a single mile, unfortunately. These book into the Q and N fare codes, but AA only awards miles to some of Cathay Pacific's most expensive fare classes -
