I went to primary school in the seventies and sometimes had school meals while my parents were very busy working. Sadly, no salsify or Swiss Chard on the menu in Scotland, Orbitmic. I love both now. Thinking back, there were a lot of bland and weird items on the menu. Think pink custard over sponge or spaghetti flan (you heard). The blessing came in the lack of choice and learning to try what was put before me. I don't remember ever having chips at school. I do remember trying a small piece of liver with the texture of a slipper, all cooked freshly in the school canteen. 😁 The key consistent benefit was a limited choice and eating what was presented. Reflecting on my previous comment, and some posts above, perhaps there is room for BA to be more imaginative within budget for children. Granted, it isn't for adults, but less unhappy children on a plane sounds good to me.
