Adding another passenger to a reservation

I might bring a companion along on a trip next month. It's a short domestic trip booked several months ago for a solo traveler.

First question: is it possible to add the companion to an existing reservation, so as to use my E-Upgrades for the companion (who has no status)?

Second question: if I want to change the flight times (not the dates, just the times and just on the return trip) for my existing ticket, and if I want to buy a new ticket for a new pax, is there any way they'd waive the change fee?

One of the flights I'm already on is now very expensive (must be almost sold out). If they waive the change fee, I'm likely to buy a brand-new ticket for the companion. If they don't waive the change fee, I probably won't buy the second ticket. It makes good business sense for them to waive the change fee, and sell a whole 'nother ticket. Has anyone had any success with that kind of reasonable request?
