Recently returned from Paris. This time we split our stay between Pavilion de la Reine and Le Narcisse Blanc. Over the summer we also spent a few nights at Relais Christine. We traveled with our two young kids both times, so I figured it would be helpful to have a little comparison for others looking for family accommodation in the luxury-boutique category.
Rooms:
RC - Ground floor suite consisting of two rooms, one with our bed, one with two day beds that the kids used. One toilet, one shower, one bathtub with shower (but shower was impossible to use without flooding). Small galley kitchenette, little fridge and a rangetop (i think?). Minimal closet/storage space in the whole room, basically had to live out of suitcases. For our purposes just a poor use of space. Room entrance also right off the street. Garbage truck noise early in the morning. Classic design, frilly etc. If we return we will book interior-facing adjoining rooms.
PDLR - Adjoining top-floor superior rooms, with lock-out hallway. One had a walk-in closet and a second window in the bathroom, one with a regular (but still spacious) closet. Plenty of room to unpack our stuff. Each room had a separate toilet closet and shower/sink room. Annoyingly in both rooms the doors to the room and the toilet opened to the same spot so you had to keep the room door open to within an inch of the right spot to be able to go between the rooms and use the bathrooms without constantly moving the doorstop around. Unique patterned wallpaper, I'd call it a hybrid of classic and modern.
NB - Adjoining classic and superior rooms with lock-out hallway. Each had a single-room toilet+sink+(tub-shower combo in the superior, standup shower in the classic) room. By far the most spacious arrangement. Plenty of built-in storage along the wall in both rooms. Only downside was both had true double beds that couldn't be split. Basically all white, modern clean look. Biggest windows and most light. Obviously a very different building than the other two, which are both classic Parisian buildings with front courtyard.
Weirdly according to the specs, the rooms at NB were the same (superior) and smaller (classic) than PDLR...but didn't feel like it.
Service, etc:
The concierges at all three were helpful with making reservations and also calling when we needed to change some reservations we had made separately. Maid service at Narcisse Blanc was VASTLY superior to the other two. Any clothing sitting out was folded, toiletries were cleaned up and put away, etc, both at regular cleaning and turndown. Empty wine/drinking glasses at PDLR and NB were not cleaned up by the maids. Also had an annoying issue where the maids were cleaning our room at PDLR when we returned from breakfast a bit late (first morning) and had left DND sign up. I also wish that there was a scent stick or candle in the unventilated toilet rooms at PDLR, for obvious reasons. I'd request one if I return. I think RC had one, though I don't recall, though with four of us sharing one toilet there must have been as we did survive.
Breakfast:
The buffet at Relais Christine is legendary, multiple tables filled with breads, pastries, cheeses, meats, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, etc, etc. The buffet as PDLR was fine but much more limited with a smaller selection of bread and pastries, fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and sausage. Cheese and meats had to be requested separately, which is fine but we mostly didn't bother. Just something nice about having it out already to choose exactly what you want. Could also order other a la carte dishes, the omelet was not amazing. Narcisse Blanc is not a buffet, they bring breads and pastries as well as yogurt, and you order a la carte. Everything we ordered was insanely good - omelet, avocado toast, french toast, etc. I'd say it was a tie between RC and NB with PDLR a bit behind.
Location:
RC and PDLR both are in very lively locations, RC a bit more crowded/touristy, PDLR a bit more residential. But lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. RC is very central, can walk to nearly all the major museums. PDLR a bit further but in the center of all the coolest restaurants. Location on Place Des Vosges is lovely and also near multiple useful metro lines. NB a bit sleepier location, can walk to the golden triangle area as well as the Eiffel tower and Rodin, but other than that transit or taxi is needed. Not as many great restaurants nearby but plenty for a short stay (David Toutain, Chez L'Ami Jean, etc).
Facilities:
NB has a small, pretty pool in the basement. Very airy and glassed in dining area but the courtyard is small, while RC and PDLR both have larger, beautiful courtyards. This trip we booked using a TA who used SLH withIN. Both bills were wrong originally (breakfast mistakenly charged at PDLR and dining credit not applied at NB) but both fixed quickly. I gather I would have gotten the same amenities booking through Hyatt. We had to change our PDLR reservation to different dates <24 hours in advance due to illness and they had no problem applying the original deposit to the new dates, which overlapped with the old.
In general we were quite happy with all the hotels, though the breakfast, service, and rooms at NB put it over the top to be our favorite despite the slightly-less-exciting location. I think all are roughly the same price these days. I think if our next trip is brief I'd go back to NB, if we stayed for a while I might choose to go the apartment route instead.
Side note - we visited George V for Easter Lunch. What a beautiful hotel! Oh my the flowers...And the service was so kind, they let our children join the Easter events for guests which had lots of arts and crafts activities as well as tons of desserts and drinks.... Also coloring books and postcards for the kids at the restaurant.
Hope this is helpful!
