As a super-picky child, who is now a super-picky adult so no judgement here in that respect, I can't imagine I'd have had a problem with pasta with cheese. I wouldn't have eaten the aubergines or olives, but my little brother throughout his whole childhood would have loved those.
If you know your children are picky wouldn't you feed them beforehand and/or bring a picnic and loads of snacks, given you would never be sure that what they were going to be served would be suitable for their specific tastes?
