Just a general moan about this property and Accor in general.
I stay in Accor properties every week doing about 150-200 nights per year with them so I know what is good and bad about them, but the Chiang Mai Novotel is really pretty average. They accept tour groups again when I stayed in February of this year. This means the reception area is packed as they check in, wait for buses, or check out. Entry is still via the enclosed car park and rear entrance. Although it felt like a lengthy drive to the airport (perhaps 20-30 minutes) it sits at the end of the runway and you are aware of aircraft noise as they power out of CNX.
I was given a ground floor room with a view of a 6' wall and a chair - I was diamond then but have since slumped to Platinum. No drink (restaurant was fully operational), and a very ordinary room on the same floor as the tour groups who seem to think having shouting conversations down the corridor to their friends and family all hours is acceptable. Couldn't Novotel keep a floor for the groups and let the individual stayers occupy the other floors?
I earned 2,500 points for my stay which was immediately credited to my account. It was then immediately removed. I asked why and Accor said they would get back to me. Here we are in April and I have chased them twice with no subsequent reply. I always book via their website so no third party booking agency involved. I am a reluctant Accor loyalty member but they are big down here and the company uses them a lot. As I am diamond with Hilton I try and book them as I am irritated by Accor's complacency.
