Think of it this way: Have you ever been in a supermarket and you've seen something absolutely obscenely overpriced? Yes, you can afford it, of course, no problem. But there's just a psychological component where one starts to step back and ask oneself "Am I being taken for a fool here?" That's what I'm referring to. I'm asking whether the RC Kyoto is priced for fools.
People will spend money on what they like. Money means different things to different people.
Personally, I found the Ritz Carlton Kyoto to be a great hotel. We stayed in the Kita Suite and supremely enjoyed the soft product which was miles ahead of the Park Hyatt Kyoto and pretty much on par with the Aman Kyoto. The biggest downside is that the rooms seem to already be showing their age despite the hotel not being especially old. The on-property restaurants were excellent, however. I'm not big on hotel breakfast but I ended up eating the complimentary breakfast at the Ritz every day across both restaurants.
