If up for renting a car, Shikoku becomes more accessible. Also, Awajishima is a great place to visit. You could rent a car in Kobe, cross over the bridge to Awaji and enjoy. Then, continue to cross the bridge on the other side to Shikoku. After time there, take the Great Seto bridge back to Honshu and work your way back to Kobe through Okayama. Or opposite direction.
