Could Cathay Pacific be rebranded as 'Cathay'?
This is 100% speculation, but does anybody else here feel that before long, Cathay Pacific might drop the 'Pacific' and be rebranded simply as Cathay?
This thought struck me while watching the HK Rugby 7s last weekend, given that all the CX sponsorship branding everywhere around (and on) the grounds, signage, scoreboards etc was 'Cathay', while a look back at photos from the last pre-Covid 7s showed the branding as 'Cathay Pacific'.
After all, Cathay Pacific Cargo is now Cathay Cargo, the Marco Polo Club is now Cathay, the new credit cards carry the Cathay brand, and of course there's the big lifestyle push for the Cathay master-brand / super-brand.
And while the later could be the reason for the 7s sponsorship all being 'Cathay' - to support that drive for master-brand awareness - it did make me wonder if a few years down the track we'll see the airline simply its own name and branding to Cathay.
Thoughts..?
