I've got an upcoming trip in early October where I'd like to visit places that are new to me in southern Honshu, places that are not on the standard tourist route, as I've been to most of those.

In other words, south of Nagoya but not in the vicinity of Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima, Himeji, Naoshima, or Miyajima. I'll have a week, so ideally three separate two night stops. I hope some of the real experts on this forum have suggestions! Thanks in advance.
