Stayed here for 1 night last month with a friend as a Discoverist, and it was my first time back in Toronto for a long long time and the first time where I could control both my itinerary and my lodging plans. Now, this is only my second Park Hyatt I have ever stayed at (I also stayed at the one in Hamburg), and I was looking forward to see what this refurbished property had to offer. I had a friend who was staying with me, and while I paid 21000 points for a standard room, cash rates were I think between 560 and 600 CAD when I booked.

Arrived between 10 AM and 10:30 AM on the train from YYZ Airport and a somewhat clunky transfer at Union Station onto the Metro. The doorman set the tone for the entire stay- lots of warm greetings amongst the staff members, which continued onto the checkin process. The clerk was very thorough and professional with me, and did try to sell me on an upgrade to a suite for 80 CAD, which we declined. The room itself was decently sized and had an ambience of a cozy sort of luxury, with things feeling cohesive and elegant. One user did note the lack of a desk, which I didn’t realize until after the stay was over (I guess this is not a good hotel for doing work at unless you want to use the chairs and circular table by the window. But the beds and the pillows were magnificent, plush and supportive. Along with the shower itself- the controls are a model of simplicity (other hotels, just copy these). During the stay, a staff member stopped by with a complimentary fruit plate (I thought he had delivered it to the wrong room at first) unexpectedly which was a nice touch as well. The only other amenity I had taken advantage of during the stay was the bar, which had a wonderful view of the Toronto skyline (see last picture) and had a lively but not too overwhelming ambience (most of the drinks were hearty hard liquor based drinks). Staff were very understanding, a great combo of attentiveness and professionalism. There’s no breakfast buffet, only an a la carte offering, and the restaurant in the evening only had about 1-2 tables occupied when I walked down there around 8 PM.

Downsides? There was no separate bathtub along with the shower. I was a bit unsure if the wooden seat next to the table under the TV was a really good use of space (see 2nd and 3rd pictures), along with the little flip-down tables next to the bed where things could easily get knocked over.

So where does that leave the Park Hyatt Toronto? Well, it doesn’t overwhelm you with a luxury feel and furnishings but instead just calmly invites you in to just relax and let the luxurious mood envelope you. It’s a hotel to come to Toronto and relax/take it easy. I did make a bigger deal of “there’s no separate bathtub in the standard room” at first but in the end, it’s the staff and service that made this stay amazing, with the overall ambience a secondary factor. Even though it’s a splurge hotel, it’s a very good value at 21000 points and one that I would greatly recommend.
