I’m flying to Europe next week and I think I’m picking AA F over LH F. I never thought I’d do this but I think it makes sense. I’ve looked at all aspects of the trip and shockingly I think AA is best overall for me based on my tastes and my situation. What am I missing?

JFK Check in: Probably a push but AA may be the winner here. LH does nothing special and AA feels special but may not save a ton of time.

JFK Lounge: Win AA. Having access to Chelsea, Soho and Brooklyn Brewery tasting room beats the LH lounge which only has a small 1st class section. Yes, LH F section is more private but doesn’t have as good food/drink options.

Flight: LH should win but is that on reputation alone? Service will definitely be better. Drinks are a step above AA. I don’t eat caviar and have a blue color meal tastes so upgraded food isn’t a huge advantage. The sample menus don't really thrill me. If I eat well in Chelsea I can sleep and so AA in flight meal is not as important. I think the AA 777 seat wins over the LH A340 which has no privacy.

Connection: LH wins. AA LHR connection from T3 to T5 is a pain. The LH FRA connection is no picnic either but is more straight forward. If I can connect thru MUC then there is definitely a LH advantage especially with in lounge passport control.

Connecting Lounge: I think a push here. With AA I have access to CCR (yes, may be denied based on reports) and the FC lounge. LH has FC lounge. If connecting in MUC I may get driven to plane if at remote stand. The MUC connection would give LH the advantage. If my AA/BA connection was leaving LHR T3 then AA would have the advantage but it isn't.

Cost: Award ticket and total is within 5K of each other.

Other: AA F is going away so fly it now. I probably will be flying LH home, especially if I can leave from FRA and use FCT, so I’ll get my LH fix then. The LH connection would be to another LH flight vs an AA to BA connection so advantage LH there.

So looking at check in, flight, lounges and other items AA seems to win. I think JFK lounges plus me not liking caviar puts AA over the top. AA F going away is also an intangible. It also my be my last opportunity go use Chelsea lounge.

Am I crazy?
