Delta also requires dog owners to sign an affidavit online attesting to the fact that they’re trained by one of the large service animal organizations or say that you trained them yourself. IIRC there is also language about being denied boarding for poor animal behavior. I think the legalese on the page has helped scare off some of the most blatant ESA scammers.
But sadly not all of them… I personally have an acquaintance (not a friend- I say that because I have ethical issues with his practice) who takes his dog on Delta outside a carrier (would be too big to fit in a carrier under the seat) who got some doctor to “certify” the dog. I assure you, the dog is not a trained service animal and in reality is not a ESA, just a pet.
