I stayed three nights ago at the Element in Harrison. I was very pleased, and was surprised reading elsewhere on this forum the property was older than a year or two. No upgrade, but they offered a few drink coupons. I do not partake so was fine with a couple bottles of water. Neighborhood looks decent and plenty of places to eat within a couple of blocks (and a shuttle that during most hours will take you to surrounding area). Also a liquor store downstairs. I was exhausted so didn't go out (had grabbed an extra sandwich and salad from Pret a couple hours earlier on my way).
Some people mentioned noise... I did find a pair of earplugs in the bedside table. Not that I needed them... I didn't notice any noise. But I may also be immune... after years of living in downtown Baltimore City, the sound of sirens and screaming homeless at 2am is like a lullaby.
I arrived coming up from Philadelphia on Acela and exited at Newark Penn where it was about a 20 foot walk from train car door to the fare gates to PATH and at 5pm there's one running every few minutes. Maybe a 5 minute walk at most from PATH Harrison station to the hotel.
I had a 9am out of EWR Terminal B and got a 7am shuttle (I think first one of the day). I was the only rider and driver took back roads through the neighborhood. Time to Terminal B curbside was just about 20 minutes on a Wednesday morning.
I will stay here again, especially if I'm arriving from Amtrak or coming from the east.
