Yup, totally. The wording "we have accepted your request" is vague and easily interpretable different ways. In this case, both parties interpreted it to their own benefit (which is natural).

I'm not blaming you for what I see as the hotel's failure, but perhaps a lesson learned for the future is to proactively follow-up with the hotel in advance of the stay. When something like this is important to me, I do that once at booking, again about a week before the stay, and one more time the day before checking in. We shouldn't have to do that, but that's the world of hospitality we seem to live in these days.
