You're kidding right? These fees are all over... NYC, SF, Miami downtown (not the beachs)... list goes on. Not a resort in sight of these places. And the crapola they give you for the pleasure of the fee is absurd. 10% discounts to more crap.
It's not the main reason, but one of the reasons I love being a Hyatt Globalist. Marriott has lost a lot of business from me because of these fees. I realize they don't care... but I do.
It's funny because I actually wasn't staying with Hyatt just to avoid the destination fees. I did it because I needed the nights to requalify for Globalist. It's relatively easy to requalify for Marriott Titanium status and I prefer Marriott overseas, especially in Asia since elite recognition is amazing. No destination fees in the Asian cities that I visited. It's nice knowing that at least I have one way to avoid destination fees in the US.
