Personal Gold Card. Offered 15K points for $2K spend over 3 months. Declined and canceled.
I've had this account for 39 years. I've recently had some customer service issues. There were two large dining charges in the fall that I didn't get 4 points for. I called about the first one, and was assured repeatedly by the agent that I'd see those extra points in 30 days in a separate posting. Didn't happen. Identical charge in November also only received 1 point/$. Called again this winter; was told they'd open an investigation. I got a letter in the mail that said they were "looking into having this merchant participate in the future," which was vague and didn't directly address my claim. Called back and was told first agent was wrong, I get nothing. Simultaneously, I started having problems with Amex paying my Grubhub charges with points without my authorization. Happened twice in a row. And right after this I get hit with the $250 fee.
.
So I used chat to cancel, and this was the best offer the agent had. She did ask to take another look at the two charges from earlier. It was a total of 2640 points. I told her that if they'd just given that to me as a customer service gesture, I wouldn't be canceling. She reconfirmed "no" on that, even as I told her that if they would just give me those points as well, I'd take the 15K offer. So I canceled.
Kind of sad, actually. This was my very first credit card that I got on my own--originally a green card.
