Hyatt may be giving the big island to Hilton and Marriott, but it seems they’ve focused on Maui a bit via partnership properties along with Andaz Maui being a powerhouse property.
Interesting enough GH Kauai is listed as the most booked Hyatt property on points according to Hyatt.
They definitely seem to be conceding Oahu to Marriott and fo a lessee degree Hilton. I like the Regency, but having stayed there in the good old days, it is a shell of its previous greatness. I'm old enough to remember the Colony and the Regency Club courtesy car so consider that when I say it's a shell. I do like staying there.
I only chose the Centric because I had a 1-4 category certificate and because I was arriving very late the first night. 2 nights for 189 was something I thought was too good to pass up. I had a meeting in Honolulu so I wasn't looking for pleasure. Just a place to sleep. The girl who checked me in was super sweet. She was apologetic about the lack of amenities. She gave me the 4 pm late checkout without hesitation. So I haven't experienced an uncaring staff. I also wonder if they may have a new GM as the prices they're offering now are at or even below what the Hyatt Place is asking. I had no trouble securing the free night stay and every night I looked at had regular points rooms. This was not the case last August. They were typically higher than the Regency with no points reservations.
I'm also not sure you can compare Hyatt on Maui to Marriott which offers the Ritz, Sheraton, Westin, and the Waikea Beach Marriott. The Andaz is the worst hotel in playing games with points availability so much to the point that I never bother even looking at them. I enjoy the HR Maui but also understand that it's declined in recent years. I was last there probably six or 7 years ago so I don't know its current state. I guess the addition of Hana and the condo offerings helps there, but those are rarely available on points. Kauai is Kauai and I think you either love it or hate it. It was never really my jam but it is a nice property. I'm just sad that Hawaii used to be a big part of why I chose Hyatt too tier. Now those properties just lost their spark. I am not a Marriott fan at all, but they are now better overall in Hawaii.
