First-class cabins and routes seem to shrink every month. Five and six-hour routes that formerly had Club World are now CE only. Those using Avios get poor value compared to just before the Covid lockdowns in 2020. The answer from some is that flights are full so why change this cash-winning formula? This approach seems short-sighted and I agree with points made by

Through British Airways I booked first class flights to Abu Dhabi and Club World to Cairo in 2020. First to Tel Aviv and Cairo, were possible not that long before. Muscat was another destination since dropped. I just read about Mexico and Las Vegas. Those that predicted the end of BA first class as we knew it appear to have been right.
So, what happens to leisure travellers disappointed by downgrades on routes? BA has no need to consider this sector (given that they can fill planes full of CE seating for six-hour flights)? I'm with
HIDDY on this one. Book elsewhere when there is better choice. For this reason, I won't bother acquiring status on BA or tier points. The American Express Platinum card offers more choices than BA's Amex Premium Plus so those looking for value for points have alternatives. Should BA simply match competitors or try to look ahead and win loyalty through innovation, comfort and good service? It all seems to be sliding downhill.
Due to ill health in my family, we have not been able to resume travel after relative normality returned towards the end of last year regarding Covid restrictions. When we are able to travel, why would I pick CE to Amman or Cairo if other choices meet my idea of J and F travel more closely? CE in Europe, is an option I'd consider and I really like domestic Club Europe.
