It actually existed for at least some years of my EXP past. And it also existed when I was an EXP using AA miles for BA economy class flights.
I did read enough FT messages to believe it (probably) existed. But I did call quite a couple of times in the earlier years and never had any success - don't think I tried in the last 10-15 years
