My wife ran into a similar situation in 2016 with a property that delayed the opening and didn’t bother telling us - FI in Princeton, WV. She had to hunt down a nearby hotel. They offered a special rate for those in the same situation, so apparently she wasn’t alone.

I left a review in TripAdvisor and they rejected it because she didn’t stay at the property.

ETA: I remember a similar issue at a property in Indianapolis - I booked for the F1 USGP 50 weeks in advance and they had reflagged, without keeping the reservations. Again, my wife arrived first. We were pretty fortunate to find an open room in the city.
